Nokia as a service provider!!!

Would you buy a connection of Nokia? I mean what if nokia comes up with a its own wireless service into your country. I just came across a news article that states that Nokia is trying to get into the wireless service business in Japan as an MVNO in collaboration with NTT Docomo.

So what is Nokia actually planning, it is getting very vertically integrated. Right from your cell phone to the network operator and also the content. i.e. even the web based services will be provided by Nokia.Talking about being vertically integrated the backbone can be supported by Nokia Siemens Networks, the spectrum would be of the service provider and the phones that the customer would be using would be of again Nokia.

So if MVNO rules open up in India, Nokia may be looking to get into the service provider segment as well. But what is the benefit that Nokia will enjoy if it enters in to the Indian Market.

Firstly as an MVNO, it can provide its rich web based content on its high end phones. It will be able to indirectly push the sales of its high end smart phones to the niche market with a promise to provide better service and more promising content which is the heart and soul of a MVNO operator.

Secondly, it would become a part of the ever increasing Indian telecommunication industry which targets to get have around 700 million connections(wireless + wireline) by 2012.

So you never know NOKIA India may be planning to get into the segment of providing telecom service to the Indian market.

But I only hope that this move of Nokia does not dilute its brand in India !!!!!!!!
